Things You Learn When You’re Broke

Sure, many people might think this was more appropriate as a post, but I have a feeling it’s going to be updated monthly over the next few years, so it’s a page. Deal with it.

  • You can shave your legs without shaving cream. Just use your loofah and the body wash, lather your legs and shave as usual. It’s just as effective, although you do knick yourself a bit more. I don’t know why.
  • Spam is not the worst food in the world when you’re broke. All you have to do is cut it thin and grill it like bacon.
  • Two people can live indefinitely off 4 pounds of pasta
  • Don’t ever wait up until midnight for a direct deposit when you have to be at work at 5am to get lots of necessary stuff done. That will be the one night there is a glitch in your bank account and the funds don’t show up.
  • True friends will share food with you when they know you’re broke. Sure, the meal may be spare for four, but they won’t let you starve.
  • A large jar of peanut butter will last for weeks. Don’t overbuy the bread though; it won’t last as long. No matter how fast you think you’ll be downing the PB&J.
  • When you have $20 for groceries and cat food, the cat food will take almost half of that money.
  • The one boss you swore you would never speak to again offers you a job and you have to debate between principle and money instead of just letting principle alone make the decision.
  • Keeping your head above water is more difficult when organizations don’t cash your checks for an entire month. By then, you’ve forgotten about the check and suddenly, instead of a $50 check for something, you’re overdrawn and the stupid thing that was $50 is now closer to costing $250.

  1. This is freaking hillarious! Great blog!

  2. Not shaving at all will save you $10.00 a month.

  3. $10.00! Wow! I didn’t realize it was that expensive to shave. Why have I never thought of that?

Have your say
