Can you blame me, though? With the most recent cat food scare, I have the right to be a cat food snob. But I didn’t realize that I was one until about a week ago. I took my last $25 to Wal-Mart for enough groceries to get me through the weeks before my little pay day. (Working two jobs I have a “big pay day” from the school at the first of the month, and a little pay day from my second job that pays on the 15th.)

I went with a specific list:

Peanut butter ($1.32 for the giant, generic)

Jelly ($1.05 for the giant, generic)

Butter ($.97 for 4 sticks of generic)

Bread ($.99 for a generic loaf)

Spam (3 cans @$1.25 each = $3.75)

Pasta (4 pounds @ $.79 a pound-generic = $3.11)

Cat food ($7.99 for a medium bag of Purina)

So, I spent twice the amount on cat food that I spent on any other portion of our food. Now, realize that I did stand in the aisle and contemplate getting generic food. But I just couldn’t bring myself to feed the cat (yes, the cat who licks his butt) generic food.
